The EAC Network introduces the Watershed
ERI!
Upper Perkiomen Watershed
Interactive Maps from a Watershed-wide Environmental Resource Inventory
See the Watershed ERI Now!

The EAC Network, a project of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council,
has compiled three watershed ERIs to be used as a tool for municipalities
and EACs. The first Watershed ERI to be put on-line documents important
features for watershed planning in the Upper Perkiomen Watershed,
which covers parts of Montgomery, Bucks, Lehigh and Berks Counties.
The ERI is an interactive map run with SVG viewer that allows visitors
to this website to select the layers they want to focus on along with
a choice of background. These layers can be viewed individually or
in combinations depending on what the user wants to determine. Political
boundaries and natural features are displayed on this map. Streams,
lakes, floodplains and wetlands are mapped because these features
are so important to planning decisions. The map also includes large
regional parks offering exceptional scenic and recreational value
to the area.
The Upper Perkiomen watershed encompasses over 144 square miles and
at least 24 local municipalities fall at least partially in the Upper
Perkiomen watershed. With watersheds of this size, a strategic regional
approach is necessary to enhance and maintain the quality of the watershed
as a whole. EACs, municipal officials, planning commissions, land
trusts, and watershed associations will be able to use this information
to make more educated planning decisions, improving the overall quality
of the watershed.
The
information from this ERI will be accessible from several websites
including the EAC Network Website, the Upper Perkiomen Watershed Coalition
website and others. If you are having trouble accessing the information
on this website, you may need to view a simpler version of the maps
as explained on the website.
This project is one of 3 watershed ERIs conducted by PEC. The other
ERIs include Pine Creek in Allegheny County, and the Darby Creek,
in Chester, Montgomery, Delaware and Philadelphia counties. Data from
these projects can be obtained by contacting PEC. This project was
supported by Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection
through a Growing Greener Grant.
